This has raised issues of relative discrimination among residents of northern Gyeonggi. In response, the foundation held a competition among local governments in northern Gyeonggi to select a site for the new northern campus, and Goyang City was ultimately chosen as the final location.
The Gyeonggi Province Technical School Northern Campus, which specializes in practical, customized workforce training, will be established on the 9th floor of the Changjo Innovation Campus Seongsa in Deogyang-gu, covering approximately 825 square meters. The city plans to begin construction of educational facilities in May and aims to officially open the campus between June and July.
Starting in the second half of this year, the campus will offer a variety of courses, including electrical facility construction management, system HVAC installation, and AI-based software automation. The curriculum will be further expanded in line with local industry demand.
Goyang City expects that attracting the northern campus will not only foster field-oriented talent tailored to industrial needs but also strengthen the region’s employment base.
Additionally, by efficiently utilizing unused space within Changjo Innovation Campus Seongsa, the city anticipates budget savings. Bringing in around 80 trainees during the second half of the year is also expected to have various ripple effects, such as revitalizing the local economy.
Kim Kyunghan, Head of the Employment Policy Division of Goyang City, stated, "The Gyeonggi Province Technical School Northern Campus is expected to serve as an outpost that addresses the chronic shortage of vocational education infrastructure in northern Gyeonggi and cultivates talent to lead future high-tech industries."
