The nighttime opening of Hwaseong Haenggung Palace in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, will begin on May 1.
On April 29, Suwon City announced that it will hold "Moonlit Hwadam, Flower Conversations (花談)" every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from May 1 to November 1, allowing visitors to tour Hwaseong Haenggung until 9:30 p.m.
Hwaseong Haenggung, where visitors can sense the grand ambitions and filial piety of King Jeongjo, stands out as the largest and most formal of all haenggung palaces in the country. It is considered one of the most beautiful palaces, alongside Gyeongbokgung.
Through the nighttime opening, visitors can experience the beauty of Suwon Hwaseong at night-more enchanting than during the day-enjoying the palace’s serene atmosphere and nighttime scenery under the tranquil moonlight in the heart of the city.
Suwon City has created immersive content for each area, thematically weaving together stories of King Jeongjo’s filial piety and love for his people. As visitors stroll through Hwaseong Haenggung, they can discover hidden stories at various locations.
Hwaseong Haenggung will be divided into four themed spaces: ▲ Light of Welcome ▲ Light of Immersion ▲ Play Yard ▲ Space for Contemplation. The city has prepared diverse attractions and hands-on experiences, including 3D holograms, laser shows, butterfly drones, and the Moonlight Group Photo Studio.
In particular, for the first time, a special nighttime martial arts performance (May-August) will be presented at Yuyeotaek, offering visitors a dynamic spectacle.
The opening performance for the 2026 Hwaseong Haenggung Nighttime Opening, titled "Hwaseong Mankae/花聲滿開: The Blooming Sound of Flowers," will take place at 7:00 p.m. on May 2 in the front yard of Nangnamheon at Hwaseong Haenggung.
The Suwon City Choir, traditional Korean musician Nam Sangil, and the fusion gugak band "Project Rock" will participate, presenting a diverse stage that blends the depth of tradition with modern sensibilities.
Visitors wearing hanbok and children under the age of six can enter Hwaseong Haenggung free of charge.
Suwon City is actively promoting nighttime tourism. Starting with the nighttime opening of Hwaseong Haenggung, the city will host a variety of nighttime festivals, including the "Suwon Hwaseong Heritage Concert" (June 13), "2026 Suwon National Heritage Night Tour" (August 14-16), "Suwon Hwaseong Media Art" (September 19-October 6), and the "Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival" (October 4-11), making Suwon a city where the night comes alive with festivities.
