Trump Criticizes German Chancellor: "He Doesn't Know What He Is Talking About"

U.S. President Donald Trump on April 28 (local time) criticized German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who had denounced the Iran war, saying, "He doesn't know what he is talking about."

President Trump said on Truth Social that "Chancellor Merz thinks it's okay for Iran to possess nuclear weapons."

He continued, "If Iran acquires nuclear weapons, the entire world will be held hostage," adding, "Right now, I am doing regarding Iran what other countries or presidents should have done a long time ago."

He also stated, "It is not at all surprising that Germany is performing terribly both economically and diplomatically."

This appears to be in response to Chancellor Merz's remarks the previous day. Chancellor Merz, during a visit to a Gymnasium (middle and high school) in western Germany, said, "It is quite clear that the United States entered this war without a strategy," adding, "Iran is much stronger than expected, and the United States lacks a convincing strategy even in negotiations."

President Trump has previously strongly criticized European allies for not helping the United States, which was trying to launch a military operation to reopen the Strait of Hormuz after it was blockaded due to the Iran war.
