The Cultural Heritage Administration and the National Trust for Cultural Heritage announced on the 29th that, with sponsorship from Riot Games, they will distribute 800 flame-retardant jackets to regional cultural heritage care centers.
The regional care centers periodically inspect the condition of national heritage sites and carry out preventive maintenance to address minor damages. In the event of natural disasters such as wildfires, typhoons, or heavy snow, the centers conduct emergency investigations and take follow-up measures for national heritage sites that are at high risk of damage.
Last month, during the nationwide wildfires, some regional care centers installed flame-retardant cloth at Bonghwangsa Daeungjeon in Andong and Manhyojeong, and supported the evacuation of artifacts at Mohanjae in Hadong. A firebreak was also installed at Jangansa Daeungjeon in Gijang.
The flame-retardant jackets provided this time are made of fire-resistant fibers and will be used as protective gear to prevent accidents and enhance on-site response capabilities for employees at the regional care centers.
