The National Heritage Administration announced on April 29 that, starting from May 6, it will conduct a trial release of its national heritage repair history database (DB) and Heritage Building Information Modeling (HBIM) data.

Previously, this information was accessible only to experts and repair technicians, but the scope of access will now be expanded to allow the general public to utilize it. HBIM is a digital technology that integrates management of architectural heritage by providing 3D modeling of structures, including their construction, materials, and repair history.

The trial release will cover five sites: Bongjeongsa Geungnakjeon in Andong, Jinnamgwan in Yeosu, Hyangwonjeong in Gyeongbokgung Palace, the No Gang Seowon lecture hall in Nonsan, and Gwanghallu in Namwon. The information to be released includes 3D shape data, historical background, repair records, materials, and decorative painting details.

The data can be viewed without any additional program installation on the website of the Traditional Architectural Repair Technology Promotion Foundation. An official from the National Heritage Administration stated, "Based on the results of this trial release, we plan to gradually make the information fully public starting next year."

Meanwhile, the National Heritage Administration and the Traditional Architectural Repair Technology Promotion Foundation are also working on building databases for seven additional sites this year, including the Daeungjeon Hall of Gwanryongsa in Changnyeong, as a new project.
