"Research Security Protected by the Field"... KAIST and Chung-Ang University Launch Hub Centers

A "Research Security Hub" aimed at addressing risks such as technology leakage associated with the expansion of international joint research will officially commence operations. This is significant as it establishes a support system driven by the research field itself, enabling the internalization of research security practices.

The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on April 29 that it held a launch meeting for the Research Security Center at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) in Daejeon and has now begun operations. Through a competitive selection process, KAIST and Chung-Ang University were appointed as the operating institutions.

The center will provide information sharing, education, and consulting to verify the reliability of research collaborators, and will also operate a cooperative network among industry, academia, research institutes, and overseas institutions. KAIST will establish a data-driven management system, including AI-based risk assessment, while Chung-Ang University will be responsible for a collaborative service that shares research security information among universities.

Hwang Sunghoon, Director General for International Cooperation at the Ministry of Science and ICT, stated, "We will support the establishment of a research security culture at research sites and the expansion of trust-based international collaboration."
