Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has expressed her intention to cooperate with Egypt, which has been making diplomatic mediation efforts for peace negotiations between the United States and Iran.
According to Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Prime Minister Takaichi held a phone call with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi for about 20 minutes starting at 6 p.m. on April 28, 2026.
Prime Minister Takaichi paid tribute to Egypt for its diplomatic mediation efforts with Pakistan, and President el-Sisi stated that Egypt would continue its mediation efforts to help resume negotiations between the United States and Iran as soon as possible.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that both leaders agreed to strengthen cooperation regarding negotiations between the United States and Iran, and also confirmed they would work together on the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.
