Hwasun County in South Jeolla Province announced that, in celebration of Children's Day, it will host a large-scale hands-on festival for children and families, further reinforcing its identity as a "child-friendly city."
On May 5, Children's Day events will be held at both Namsan Park and the Flower River Road Music Fountain area, creating a festive atmosphere from morning until night.
The "Exciting Dream Namsan for Hwasun Children!" event will take place at Namsan Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., focusing on hands-on experiences and play activities.
The festivities will kick off with pre-event performances such as a balloon show and a magic show. Throughout the venue, a variety of experience programs will be available, with a total of 15 hands-on booths-including ballpoint pen decorating and keycap keyring making-designed to encourage children to participate and express their creativity.
Additionally, play facilities such as air bounces and mission-based prize events will offer an environment where children can play freely and have fun.
This event was planned to promote respect for and the rights of children, in line with Hwasun’s UNICEF-certified status as a child-friendly city.
In the afternoon, the stage will shift to the Flower River Road Music Fountain. The "Shining Children, Gather!" event will run from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., featuring a combination of performances, hands-on activities, and food for a multi-faceted festival experience.
The highlights-bubble shows, balloon shows, and magic shows-will take place from 5 p.m. for one hour. The music fountain will operate twice, at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. Notably, a busking performance at 7 p.m. will provide a unique evening cultural experience for families.
The hands-on programs are also a point of interest. On-site participatory activities such as outdoor bubble experiences, face painting, and a character parade will be offered. In addition, an SNS authentication event will provide LED maracas decorating kits and glow bracelet making kits.
The defining feature of this year's Children's Day event is "expansion." By connecting Namsan Park (focused on play and hands-on activities) and Flower River Road (centered on performances and nighttime culture), the festival expands its spatial scope, and by running from morning until night, it extends over time, creating a festival that expands both time and space.
This is significant in that it goes beyond a simple Children's Day event and is designed as a festival that all generations can enjoy together during Family Month.
Through this Children's Day festival, Hwasun County has clearly outlined the direction of its "child-friendly policies." By expanding child-led hands-on experiences, establishing family-participation culture, transforming local spaces into cultural venues, and creating safe and enjoyable play environments, the county is making tangible progress in realizing the values of a child-friendly city.
Yoon Jaegwan, Public Relations and Communication Officer, said, "We hope that this Children's Day will be a day when children can run and laugh freely," adding, "We look forward to people of all ages joining together at the Children's Day festival."
