This amendment was made ahead of the nationwide simultaneous local elections scheduled for June 3. The focus of the revision was to re-adjust the electoral districts and the number of council members by reflecting population deviation criteria, as stipulated by the amended Public Official Election Act and the Constitutional Court's ruling.

The committee comprehensively reviewed the proposal submitted by the Electoral District Delimitation Committee, taking into account not only population changes in each city and county, but also living areas, geography, and transportation conditions. As a result, it was deemed that the relevant laws and procedures were fully followed, and the bill was passed without modification.

With this adjustment, the total number of basic council members in the province increased from the previous 198 to 200. Both Jeonju City Council and Gunsan City Council each gained one additional member.

Accordingly, Jeonju City Council will now have a total of 36 members (32 from electoral districts and 4 from proportional representation), and Gunsan City Council will have a total of 24 members (21 from electoral districts and 3 from proportional representation).

Based on the newly confirmed electoral districts, each city and county will begin preparation procedures for the upcoming local elections.
