"Visiting Application Service" Also Available for Seniors and People with Disabilities

Mokpo City in South Jeolla Province is steadily proceeding with the payment of support funds aimed at easing the financial burden on vulnerable groups caused by high oil prices. The city announced that the first round of "High Oil Price Damage Support Funds" is being distributed smoothly.

This first round of payments will be made from April 27 to May 8, targeting recipients of basic livelihood security, those in the near-poor category, and single-parent families. The amount of support is KRW 600,000 per person for basic livelihood security recipients, and KRW 500,000 per person for the near-poor and single-parent families.

The support funds are provided either as a recharge to credit/debit cards or in the form of a prepaid card. Card recharges can be requested through the card company's website or at their branches, while prepaid cards can be received immediately at the administrative welfare center of the recipient's residential district.

The city has also strengthened on-site assistance to enhance citizen convenience during the payment process. Online and bank applications are subject to a weekday system based on the last digit of the applicant's birth year during the first week only, to prevent congestion, but in-person applications at administrative welfare centers can be made regardless of the weekday system.

In addition, auxiliary personnel have been assigned to each district office to support prompt processing, and a "visiting application service" is available for seniors, people with disabilities, and others who may need it.

The distributed support funds can be used at small businesses in Mokpo City with annual sales of KRW 3 billion or less until August 31, 2026. Any unused balance after this period will expire.

Furthermore, the city has urged residents to be cautious of phishing crimes that impersonate the support fund application process, especially text messages inducing users to click on internet links.

Seokhun Cho, Acting Mayor of Mokpo, stated, "We hope this support fund will help reduce the financial burden on vulnerable groups," adding, "We will focus all administrative resources to ensure that every eligible person receives the benefit."

Meanwhile, those who do not apply during the first round can receive the same support during the second application period, which begins on May 18.
