Sinan County in South Jeolla Province is expanding green spaces in daily life through a private garden registration system, which has been met with a positive response from residents. The county provides discounts on water and sewage fees to residents who register and manage private gardens, and it announced that around 200 gardens have been registered so far.
This system is part of a policy launched in 2024 with the goal of creating "one garden per island," focusing on expanding garden culture through resident participation.

To date, 198 gardens have been registered, and the county issues name plaques to registered garden owners to boost their sense of pride in participation.
The fee discount varies according to the size of the garden: gardens between 33㎡ and less than 66㎡ receive a 20% discount, while gardens 66㎡ or larger receive up to a 30% discount on water and sewage fees.
Applications can be submitted at any time at local town offices, and benefits are applied immediately once registration is completed following an on-site inspection.
A county official stated, "As more residents take part, the entire island is transforming into a single large garden," adding, "We will continue to expand the joy of gardening and the effect of improving our local environment through practical support in the future."
Meanwhile, Sinan County plans to continue promoting policies that link the expansion of private garden registrations to improved residential environments and the development of tourism resources.
