Last month, it was tallied that domestic companies raised nearly 20 trillion won through direct financing markets such as stocks and corporate bonds.
According to the “Direct Financing by Corporations in March” report released by the Financial Supervisory Service on April 28, the total amount raised through public offerings of stocks and corporate bonds last month was 19.9832 trillion won, an increase of 733.5 billion won (3.8%) compared to the previous month.
The volume of stock issuance was 440.2 billion won, an increase of 98.7 billion won (28.9%) compared to the previous month. However, this figure represents a 6.1% decrease compared to the same month last year.
There were nine initial public offerings (IPOs), totaling 210.4 billion won. Compared to the previous month, the number of deals increased by six (200.0%), while the amount decreased by 80.4 billion won (27.6%). All nine listings were on the KOSDAQ market, and of these, three were confirmed to be listings of special purpose acquisition companies (SPAC).
Paid-in capital increases totaled seven cases, amounting to 229.8 billion won, which is an increase of three cases (75.0%) and 179.1 billion won (353.3%) compared to the previous month. Three of these were on the KOSPI market, while four were on the KOSDAQ market.
Corporate bond issuance amounted to a total of 337 cases and 19.543 trillion won, an increase of 634.8 billion won (3.4%) compared to the previous month (292 cases, 18.9082 trillion won). While financial bonds recorded a slight increase to 13.4424 trillion won compared to the previous month, general corporate bonds decreased by 6.5% to 4.781 trillion won. The issuance of asset-backed securities (ABS) was 80 cases, totaling 1.3196 trillion won, an increase of 892.1 billion won (208.7%) compared to the previous month.
As of the end of March, outstanding corporate bonds stood at 747.3152 trillion won, a decrease of 1.1329 trillion won compared to the previous month.
The combined issuance of commercial paper (CP) and short-term bonds totaled 200.4738 trillion won, an increase of 40.9016 trillion won (25.6%) compared to the previous month. CP issuance was 46.7698 trillion won, up by 8.9139 trillion won (23.5%). Short-term bond issuance was 153.704 trillion won, rising by 31.9877 trillion won (26.3%).
