The donation ceremony was attended by Chungshik Kang, Vice President of SK Innovation, and Seonwon Seo, Secretary General of the Korea Leukemia Children's Foundation, among others.
This donation was made possible by the "1% Happiness Sharing Fund," which consists of voluntary contributions of 1% of base salary from SK Innovation group members. The "1% Happiness Sharing Fund" is a fund created by pooling the intentions of employees to support vulnerable groups and strengthen the social safety net. It is used for various purposes, including supporting children and youth, assisting children with developmental disabilities, caring for elderly people who live alone, environmental restoration, and promoting community coexistence.
Since 2008, SK Innovation has continued to make donations to help children with leukemia and pediatric cancer receive treatment. The cumulative amount donated has reached 6.7 billion won. According to SK Innovation, so far, about 700 pediatric cancer patients have received assistance with treatment expenses, and the medical cost burden on beneficiary families has been reduced by an average of about 25%.
Chungshik Kang, Vice President of SK Innovation, said, "I hope the '1% Happiness Sharing Fund,' which was voluntarily created by our members, can be a small ray of hope for children with leukemia and pediatric cancer and their families," adding, "We will continue to provide various forms of support that deliver social value, so that future generations can grow up healthy."
Seonwon Seo, Secretary General of the Korea Leukemia Children's Foundation, stated, "Because pediatric cancer treatment often continues for a long time, it places a significant financial burden on patients and their families. The donation provided by SK Innovation members will be a great source of support for children undergoing treatment and their families."
