Incheon City to Invest KRW 241.9 Billion to Create 55,600 Senior Jobs... Expansion in ESG Sector

On April 28, the Incheon Metropolitan Government announced that it will invest KRW 241.9 billion this year in senior employment programs, providing jobs to approximately 55,600 people.

The employment programs are operated by a total of 47 organizations, including each district office, the Senior Human Resources Development Center, and senior welfare centers. These programs are divided into four types: public interest activities, senior competency utilization, community project groups, and employment support. The structure reflects the health status and capabilities of senior citizens, tailoring opportunities to their needs.

The city plans to focus on expanding senior jobs in the ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) social value management sector, which addresses social problems. The city will increase jobs that contribute to solving environmental issues, such as collecting used batteries and expired medicine, recycling paper cartons, and providing free toy repairs. It will also strive to fill gaps in local care services through after-school care support and collaboration with the Neulbom School project.

In addition, the city will accelerate the creation of sustainable jobs that leverage the professional skills of the baby boomer generation. It plans to open additional Senior Dream Stores (GS Convenience Stores) and continuously provide job roles suitable for the new generation of seniors, such as guidance services in the financial and public healthcare sectors.

Last year, 58,221 people participated in Incheon’s senior employment programs, and early dementia screening was provided to 3,425 participants engaged in public interest activities.

A 'pre-sale' service, which allows customers to pick up their purchases on the day of the event, is also available until May 1 next month. Applications can be made on the website of the Incheon Senior Human Resources Development Center.

An official from the Incheon Metropolitan Government stated, “We will continue to strengthen and expand the senior employment programs to support the economic independence of seniors and encourage their active participation in society.”
