Lotte Energy Materials (CEO Kim Yeonseop) announced on April 28 that it will invest approximately 50 billion won in its Iksan plant, which is the only domestic production base for circuit foil, to complete its value chain in the materials industry, including copper clad laminate (CCL) and printed circuit board (PCB) segments.

The company stated, "Although the electric vehicle (EV) market, including the copper foil sector, is facing challenges due to the so-called 'chasm', this investment is essential for securing future competitiveness and is a decision aimed at business recovery and market expansion."

With the rapid growth of AI data centers and similar sectors, demand for hyper very low profile (HVLP) copper foil, which enables high-speed signal transmission, is increasing substantially. Client companies are proactively securing inventory in response. Lotte Energy Materials plans to address such demand through this latest investment.

Kim Yeonseop, CEO of Lotte Energy Materials, stated, "We have carefully decided on this investment to achieve two goals: securing future competitiveness and recovering performance. By securing core material technologies and expanding production capacity of our facilities, we will further strengthen our clients' trust through quality and supply stability."

Meanwhile, in March, Lotte Energy Materials signed a memorandum of understanding with Doosan Electronics BG, which possesses copper clad laminate (CCL) technology, for the joint evaluation and supply cooperation of copper foil required for manufacturing high-performance printed circuit boards (PCBs) for AI data centers and network equipment.
