Jinju City in South Gyeongsang Province is moving forward with a plan to reduce public facility usage fees for employees of relocated public institutions and the Korea Aerospace Administration (KASA).

The city announced on the 28th that it had established a "Comprehensive Amendment Plan for Local Ordinances" that includes reductions in usage fees for major facilities within the jurisdiction, and has begun the legislative notice process.

The key aspect of this ordinance revision is to extend usage fee reduction benefits, previously available only to Jinju residents, to employees of relocated public institutions and the Korea Aerospace Administration. The city explained that this reflects the fact that these employees live primarily in Jinju and have, in effect, formed the same living sphere as local residents.

Accordingly, once the ordinance is amended, employees of 12 relocated public institutions and the Korea Aerospace Administration will be able to receive the same fee reduction benefits as Jinju citizens, regardless of their registered address, by presenting employee IDs or other proof of employment.

Major benefits include free admission to Jinjuseong Fortress, as well as a 50% discount on usage fees at a number of facilities such as the Jinju Dinosaur Footprint Exhibition Hall, the Bronze Age Culture Museum, the Lee Seongja Art Museum, the Lantern Exhibition Hall, the Silk Museum, the Namgang Water Leisure Sports Center, and the Jinyangho Zoo. Experience fees at forest culture and recreational facilities will be discounted by 30%.

Jinju City expects this policy to expand cultural and leisure opportunities for public institution employees and help close the psychological gap between them and the local community. The city also anticipates positive effects on revitalizing local consumption and establishing a foundation for mutual prosperity.

A city official stated, "Employees of public institutions and the Korea Aerospace Administration who work in Jinju are important members of the community, regardless of their place of residence," adding, "We will continue to discover and promote various support policies and improvements to settlement conditions going forward."
