Four Long-billed Dowitchers have returned to the lotus restoration wetland in Suncheon Bay for the summer season.

The Long-billed Dowitcher is a beautiful summer migratory bird characterized by its long red legs, slender body, and black wings. It typically forages along shallow waters and the edges of wetlands.

This time, the Long-billed Dowitchers were observed in the restoration wetland, where lotus flowers were planted to create a feeding ground for Whooper Swans, which are winter migratory birds. Last year, four Long-billed Dowitchers were also observed in the same location during the same period. The return of four individuals to the same spot this year once again demonstrates that the lotus restoration wetland is establishing itself as a habitat for diverse wildlife across different seasons.

In winter, the lotus restoration wetland serves as a feeding ground and resting place for Whooper Swans and other winter migratory birds. In spring and summer, it provides a space where Long-billed Dowitchers and other waterbirds come to forage and rest.
