Yook Donghan, the Democratic Party candidate for Mayor of Chuncheon, held a press conference at the Chuncheon City Hall briefing room on the 28th, officially declaring that he would run a "policy-centered clean campaign" for the upcoming June 3rd local elections, free from mutual slander and negative campaigning.

In his statement released that day, Yook described Chuncheon as "the capital city of Gangwon Province with a proud history and tradition," and stated, "I will make this election a model of exemplary electoral culture, befitting Chuncheon's reputation and the pride of its citizens."

Yook characterized the recurring personal attacks and groundless negative campaigns during election seasons as "chronic problems that blind voters." He emphasized, "Instead of indiscriminate negativity, I will present concrete policies and feasible alternatives for Chuncheon's future, allowing citizens to judge with clear minds. While I will humbly accept reasonable criticism from the opposition, I will respond to mere insults through policy discussions."

He further stated, "An election is not simply a process of garnering votes, but a process of seeking practical alternatives for Chuncheon's development. I will present concrete and actionable pledges and subject myself to the citizens' discerning judgment."

Yook remarked, "A desirable campaign is one that earns the hearts of citizens through the specificity and sincerity of its policies. Four years ago, I also pledged and practiced a clean campaign free from criticism and slander." He added, "The promises I made at that time earned the trust of citizens, and it is on the foundation of that trust that I stand here again today."

Yook declared, "I, Yook Donghan, will prove Chuncheon's dignity through a policy-oriented campaign. I will create an election culture that meets the expectations of our citizens and devote myself solely to the future of Chuncheon and the development of our region until the very end." He continued, "I will win fairly and protect the pride of our citizens."

On this day, along with his clean campaign declaration, Yook also announced his key pledge for Chuncheon's future development: the "Restoration of Dam Sovereignty," thus opening the policy-oriented phase of the campaign.

He stated, "Over the past half-century, the damages Chuncheon has suffered due to the Soyang River Dam and others have amounted to as much as 10 trillion won," expressing his determination to significantly increase the proportion of dam profits returned to the region and to secure substantial management authority. He presented the following as main detailed tasks.

Yook went on to say, "We have united in purpose to solve Chuncheon's longstanding issues. We will increase the share of dam profits returned to the region and rationally ease regulations around dams to link them to new industries such as tourism, leisure, and energy."

Yook further stated, "Chuncheon is the region most in need of 'special compensation for special sacrifices.' Through the 'substantive restoration of dam sovereignty' policy, in cooperation with candidate Won Sunhee, I will undoubtedly usher in a new era for Chuncheon."
