NAVER announced on the 28th that it has launched the beta version of its artificial intelligence (AI) search service, 'AI Tab.' AI Tab has been available since the 27th to Naver Plus Membership users.

Users can access AI Tab via the main search bar on NAVER's PC website, at the bottom of AI Briefing, and through integrated search results for shopping and places, among others. NAVER plans to expand the service to all users and to the main mobile search bar within the first half of this year.


According to NAVER, AI Tab is capable of understanding and answering both everyday questions and advanced information queries. For instance, it can respond to broad questions such as, "What should I do with my girlfriend tomorrow?" as well as more complex requests like, "Recommend a cafe in Gangnam that's good for studying with reviews mentioning lots of power outlets and spacious seating," by providing answers that reflect the user's context. Users can continue to explore the information they seek through ongoing conversations.


Notably, NAVER has strengthened the connectivity between its services, such as integrated search, shopping, places, blogs, and cafes, reducing the need for users to jump between different platforms to find information. Additionally, by combining domain-specific data accumulated within NAVER's ecosystem with user-generated content (UGC) based on user experiences, NAVER provides comprehensive information necessary for decision-making. As a result, users can make efficient decisions without having to sift through countless reviews one by one.

For example, when asked, "Tell me about a nice cafe with a great view that's good for a date near Hwadam Forest," AI Tab analyzes NAVER Place information, visitor reviews, and blog posts to present details about the cafe's atmosphere and actual visitor feedback. Users can view detailed information from NAVER Place and even make reservations directly from the right side of the PC screen.


For queries like "Recommend a four-door refrigerator popular with newlyweds, preferably with lots of reviews from wedding preparation cafes," AI Tab provides a product selection guide and recommended products based on reviews from wedding preparation communities. Likewise, users can instantly check benefits, delivery, options, and other details and proceed with purchases from the right side of the PC screen.


During the beta period, NAVER will improve the service based on feedback from membership users. By the official launch in the first half of the year, the company aims to optimize response speed and enhance the system's ability to deliver precise answers to complex, consecutive queries. Within this year, AI Tab will be integrated with Smart Lens to strengthen multimodal AI search experiences, and it will be further advanced so that AI Tab proactively suggests additional questions and exploration options to users.


Through these efforts, NAVER aims to evolve AI Tab into the form of an AI agent. Sooyoun Choi, CEO of NAVER, stated during an earnings conference call in February, "AI Tab is fundamentally different from traditional list-based search because it is a conversational AI search service. Within NAVER's vast ecosystem, when users ask questions, AI will guide them along the optimal path and even support purchasing and reservations as an 'integrated AI agent.'"


Choi added, "AI Tab is a turning point in NAVER's search paradigm, naturally extending from exploration to action. By strengthening connections with vertical services such as shopping and local, we will provide a differentiated AI search experience in everyday life and ultimately aim for an integrated agent that leads seamlessly to execution."
