According to an analysis by Daangn’s used car service, Daangn Used Cars, of the average transaction completion period by model in the first quarter of this year, half of the top 10 fastest-selling models were discontinued vehicles, the company announced on April 28.
The fastest-selling model was the Kia Morning, which took an average of 8.5 days from listing to sale. This was followed by the Chevrolet Spark (8.9 days), Hyundai Casper (9.7 days), and Renault Korea QM3 (9.9 days), all of which were sold quickly.
Notably, five discontinued models ranked in the top 10, including the Spark, QM3, Renault Korea SM3 (10.8 days), Daewoo Matiz (10.9 days), and Chevrolet Orlando (12.2 days). The average model year of these discontinued vehicles was 2013. Despite being over a decade old, these models have a high turnover rate because it is difficult to find alternative models in the new car market and, since their discontinuation, supply has become limited, increasing the rarity of available listings. Such demand was seen evenly across various vehicle segments, from compact hatchbacks to SUVs, sedans, and RVs.
Compact cars also continued to show strong performance. All three compact hatchbacks-the Morning, Spark, and Matiz-made it into the top 10 fastest-selling models. In a previous analysis of January transaction volumes, the Morning and Spark also ranked first and second, respectively, indicating that compact cars maintain stable demand in both transaction volume and speed.
Delays in new car supply have also contributed to accelerating transaction speeds. For example, the Hyundai Casper, which currently faces a long wait time for new vehicle delivery, ranked third as demand concentrated on used listings that are available for immediate purchase.
A Daangn Used Cars representative stated, “For vehicles that are difficult to find in the market, such as discontinued models, the role of local direct transaction platforms is growing. We will continue to create an environment where users can buy and sell the cars they want in their own neighborhoods in a reasonable and safe manner.”
