On April 27 (local time), Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to discuss ways to end the war and emphasized that the two countries would continue their strategic relationship.
According to TASS Yonhap News Agency, President Putin met with Minister Araghchi in St. Petersburg and stated, "We are seeing how courageously and heroically the Iranian people are fighting for their independence and sovereignty. I hope that after overcoming this difficult period, an era of peace will come." He added, "Last week, I received a message from Iran's new leader Mojtaba Khamenei. Like Iran, Russia also intends to continue the strategic relationship between our two countries." He further emphasized, "Russia will make every effort to ensure that peace is established in the Middle East as soon as possible."
Minister Araghchi responded by saying, "The Iranian people have resisted and fought with courage against American attacks and aggression, and have proven to the world that we can endure and survive this period. The strategic partnership between Russia and Iran will be further strengthened going forward."
After the meeting, Minister Araghchi stated in an interview with Russia's Vesti TV, "The meeting with President Putin was very productive. We exchanged views on various issues, including the regional situation, and reached a mutual understanding." He also mentioned, "We are considering the possibility of negotiating with the United States."
The Russian side expressed its intention to take an active role in mediating an end to the Iran war. Yuri Ushakov, Russian Presidential Adviser on Foreign Policy, who attended the meeting, told Vesti, "We will analyze Minister Araghchi's remarks, the background of today's conversation, and the signals we have received from the United States and Israel," adding, "We may communicate our thoughts abroad and to our close partner countries."
