Minister of Land Meets GTX Operators: "Safety Is the Top Priority"

Minister Meets with Construction CEOs, Urges Advance Safety Measures

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced that on the 27th, Minister Yoonduk Kim met with the CEOs of major construction companies involved in the Greater Seoul Metropolitan Express Railway (GTX) project at the government Sejong building, urging them to prioritize safety.

The GTX, which connects the outskirts of the Seoul metropolitan area with downtown Seoul, has seen partial operation of the A line, while construction on the B and C lines has begun in earnest or is about to start. Representatives from Daewoo E&C, Lotte E&C, POSCO E&C, Hyundai E&C, and DL E&C attended the meeting.

The GTX-A line opened its Suseo-Dongtan and Unjeongjungang-Seoul Station sections in 2024, with an average of 20,000 and 70,000 daily users, respectively. As of April 12, a total of 33 million people had used the line, reflecting positive public response. This year, construction is expected to enable non-stop service connecting the currently disconnected Seoul Station-Suseo section. For the GTX-C line, a recent arbitration ruling resolved the construction cost issue, providing a boost to the project.

On this day, Minister Kim received progress reports from each of the main contractors overseeing the routes. Regarding the A line, he emphasized, "We must thoroughly verify the installation and performance of facilities in preparation for non-stop service between Seoul Station and Suseo this year, and establish comprehensive flood control measures for the rainy season."

For the B line, which began construction in August 2025, he stated, "For sections where construction has not yet commenced, we must begin work as quickly as possible and mobilize all available safety capabilities." Regarding the C line, the Ministry reported that the Minister urged, "Given the lengthy delays, it is necessary to promptly begin on-site tasks such as relocating obstacles, and, as with the B line, construction safety must remain the top priority."

Minister Kim said, "The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, along with the project management entity, the National Railroad Authority, will do their utmost to ensure smooth progress through proactive communication and on-site problem solving." He added, "We will maintain strict project management by securing the independence of supervision and strengthening pre-reviews for design changes."
