Traffic will resume on the Daejeon Riverside Urban Expressway from 5:00 p.m. on April 28.

The Daejeon City Government will restore normal operations to the main road and Ramp-B section of the Riverside Urban Expressway, which had been closed since March 30 due to emergency repair and reinforcement work on the reinforced earth retaining wall near the Wontchon Overpass.

This reopening is three days earlier than the originally scheduled date of May 1, as the repair and reinforcement process proceeded smoothly and safety inspections were completed prior to the opening.

Previously, in March, the Daejeon City Government implemented an emergency traffic control on the Ramp-B section of the Wontchon Overpass after a sudden displacement was detected in the reinforced earth retaining wall and a safety assessment rated the section as grade E.

Although this sudden restriction caused inconvenience for citizens, including traffic congestion during commuting hours, the city government worked to minimize these issues by implementing phased traffic management measures.

Efforts included securing the first lane of the main road toward Sintanjin to normalize Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) operations, temporarily suspending enforcement of bus-only lanes, adjusting subway Line 1 intervals, providing navigation detour information, adjusting traffic signal cycles, and deploying additional Tashu public bicycles.

The sections reopening include the main line of the Riverside Urban Expressway (Dunsan to Sintanjin direction) and the entire Ramp-B section of the Wontchon Overpass connecting from Wontchon Intersection toward Sintanjin, which had all been under traffic control.

With the normalization of road traffic, the temporary traffic measures implemented for detour operations will also be gradually phased out. The suspension of bus-only lane enforcement on certain sections of Daedeok-daero and Hanbat-daero will remain in effect until April 30, and regular enforcement will resume from May 1.

The Daejeon City Government will conduct final checks on pavement conditions, traffic safety facilities, and guidance signs prior to full reopening, and will continue to inform citizens about the opening schedule and traffic conditions to ensure convenient road use.

Park Minbeom, Director of Railway Construction at the Daejeon City Government, said, "We thank the citizens for their cooperation with the emergency restrictions that were unavoidable for public safety," and added, "We will maintain thorough on-site safety management until the very end to ensure the controlled section can reopen without any issues."
