On April 27, Hyungjun Park, Mayor of Busan, registered as a preliminary candidate for the Busan mayoral election and officially announced his candidacy.
At the press conference announcing his candidacy that day, Mayor Park stated, "Busan has now entered the stage of becoming a global city," adding, "I will ensure Busan's continuous development and complete the city's transformation."
Reflecting on his previous term, he assessed, "It was a period during which Busan clearly changed." He explained that there had been changes across various sectors, including jobs, advanced industries, logistics, finance, cultural tourism, and urban infrastructure. He further noted, "The fact that satisfaction with quality of life among citizens has risen to about 79% is an indicator of this change."
Hyungjun Park, a preliminary candidate, is holding a press conference for the Busan mayoral election at the Busan City Council on the afternoon of the 27th.
원본보기 아이콘He emphasized the importance of policy continuity and completion as reasons for his reelection bid. Mayor Park said, "I am running again to fulfill my responsibility to sustain and complete the changes made so far."
Regarding the upcoming election, he described it as a contest that will determine the future of Busan. Citing the concentration of resources in the capital region, he asserted, "Balanced development is not a choice but a necessity," and insisted, "Busan must become a central pillar in opening up the future of the Republic of Korea."
On the issue of the Special Act for the Global Hub City, he called on the central government and political circles to expedite its progress. Mayor Park said, "The special act must be passed for Busan to leap forward as a global city," and pledged, "I will pursue it together with the citizens without fail."
He also remarked, "Busan is a city that has played an important role in the history of democracy," adding, "The power of the citizens is crucial in this election as well."
Mayor Park declared, "When citizens come together beyond ideology and generations, Busan's transformation will be completed," pledging to "ensure the continuous development of Busan." With Mayor Park’s announcement, competition for the Busan mayoral seat is expected to intensify.
