Dongshin University announced on April 27 that it has been selected for the "2026 University AI Basic Curriculum Development Support Project," organized by the Ministry of Education and the Korean Council for University Education.
This project is a national core initiative designed to systematically expand basic AI education within universities and to enhance the AI utilization capabilities of both instructors and students in response to the era of AI-driven transformation.
Dongshin University presented the vision of becoming a leading "AI-Human Bridge University," pioneering future education by integrating human-centered values (Human) with AI technology (Tech). The university received high marks for proposing a systematic roadmap that enables all students, regardless of their major, to acquire AI competencies.
From April 2026 to February 2027, Dongshin University will receive 300 million won in first-year project funding and will be eligible for up to 600 million won over two years.
With its selection for this project, Dongshin University will designate the AI Convergence Education Center as the control tower and will launch a comprehensive AI Transformation (AX) across the entire university. The plan includes building a collaborative network with six centers such as the Education Innovation Support Office and the IR Center, to establish an all-encompassing innovation system that incorporates AI throughout the entire educational process-from establishing AI education policies, developing and operating courses, analyzing class outcomes, to quality management and feedback dissemination.
In particular, the university will upgrade its system for nurturing talent tailored to the AI era, focusing on general education and micro-majors (MD).
Within the general education curriculum, Dongshin University will gradually develop four foundational liberal arts courses based on the AI-CARE model, which emphasizes "human-centeredness and critical thinking" as core values: ▲Haenin Character in the AI Era I·II ▲AI Society and Critical Thinking ▲AI Application and Problem Solving. Three of these courses will be designated as mandatory liberal arts subjects, ensuring that all freshmen acquire AI literacy and building a robust competency foundation from the basics to practical application.
In addition, to strengthen practical AI competencies among non-engineering students, the university will newly establish and operate three micro-majors: ▲AI-based Advanced Safety Management ▲AI-based Digital Human Service Practice ▲AI-based Glocal Entrepreneurship. Through programs such as "Creative Convergence Day," Dongshin University will also create a flexible learning environment that allows anyone to pursue an AI convergence major, transcending the boundaries of traditional disciplines.
Faculty development will occur simultaneously. The university will establish a phased support system through various programs, including the DS-AI Faculty Academy, AI-Teaching Lab, customized AI training by academic field, AI course consulting, special instructional workshops, and brown bag seminars, to support everything from foundational AI competencies to specialized course design and the dissemination of best practices.
In addition, Dongshin University will build an "Open Education Network" centered on the University Shared Cooperation Center to share project outcomes among universities and further expand AI education throughout the local community. The developed AI curriculum will be disseminated through regional high school linkage programs, K-MOOC, and KOCW open lectures, establishing the "Dongshin-type" AI education model as a platform for joint growth with the local area.
President Lee Juhee of Dongshin University stated, "Through this project, we will complete an educational system that enables all university members to understand and utilize AI, and build a model for cultivating AI talent that grows with the local community. We will do our utmost to complete the project successfully and make Dongshin University a benchmark for educational innovation among regional universities in the AI era."
