The term of office for the new members is three years. The 9th Council will launch with a total of 11 members, including three existing members whose terms have not yet expired. The chairperson will be elected by the council members themselves.

The newly appointed members are Kim Daehyun, Chair of the Committee on Culture and Arts Policy at the Writers Association of Korea; Kim Sangyeon, Professor at Chonnam National University; Moon Samhwa, Executive Director of the Eocheoguni Project; Seo Youngsoo, Executive Director of the Busan Culture, Arts and Tourism Forum; Lee Beomhun, Specially Appointed Professor at Shinhan University; Lim Youngwook, Lecturer at Chung-Ang University; Jin Sol, CEO of Plaejik; and Cha Jieon, Visiting Professor at Sejong University.

The ministry explained that the 9th Council has expanded its representation from the arts sector. While the 8th Council had five arts professionals among its members, all eight new members of the 9th Council have been appointed from the arts field. Including the existing members, 10 out of the 11 council members are practicing artists.

A representative from the literature sector has also been newly included. The 8th Council did not have a literature committee member, but the 9th Council now includes one. Additionally, three members in their 30s and 40s, who were absent in the previous term, have been appointed to strengthen generational representation.

Since February, the ministry has been accepting nominations from the field and formed a Nomination Committee for the Arts Council Korea. The committee reviewed candidates submitted through a 15-day open call and recommended twice the number of candidates per sector to the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism. The ministry then publicly disclosed the candidates, collected feedback from the field, and made the final appointments.

Minister Choi Hwiyeong of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism stated, "In order to ensure the sustainable growth of K-Culture, it is now time to expand support for fundamental arts, which form its roots." He added, "As council members represent practicing artists, I hope you will work to ensure that Korea becomes a strong cultural nation with a solid foundation in the arts."
