Goheung National Space Launch Vehicle Industrial Complex Progresses Smoothly..."Accelerating the Space Industry"

Goheung County in South Jeolla Province (Governor Kong Youngmin) announced that it is accelerating the implementation of the National Space Launch Vehicle Industrial Complex by focusing administrative capabilities on the early establishment of the complex and attracting companies.

This project has been designated as exempt from a preliminary feasibility study and is planned to be developed on a site of approximately 460,000 pyeong near the Naro Space Center. Since the application for approval of the industrial complex plan was submitted last year, the project has been progressing in stages with the goal of completion by 2030.

The Goheung National Space Launch Vehicle Industrial Complex is expected to play a pivotal role not only in revitalizing the local economy by attracting launch vehicle companies and related industries, but also in securing national competitiveness in the space industry and establishing a foundation for self-reliance. In addition, significant synergy effects are anticipated through linkage with key space launch infrastructure nearby.

In particular, to promote corporate attraction, Goheung County plans to implement research and development (R&D) and commercialization support projects for space and aerospace companies over the next five years, with a total budget of around KRW 10 billion starting this year.

This support initiative focuses on establishing a customized support system that covers the entire cycle from technology development, prototype production, and performance verification to market entry, and will actively support resident companies in settling early and enhancing their competitiveness.

An official from the county's Aerospace Promotion Team stated, "The National Space Launch Vehicle Industrial Complex is being carried out as scheduled as a key infrastructure that will lead the future of Korea's space industry," and added, "We will do our best to attract outstanding companies and foster an industrial ecosystem by implementing practical support policies that companies can truly benefit from."

Meanwhile, to establish a foundation for the sustainable growth of the space industry, Goheung County is making all-out efforts by closely cooperating with central government agencies and the National Assembly to enact a special law for the Space-Aerospace Complex City and attract the Space-Aerospace Industry Promotion Institute.
