During the event, several sounds suspected to be gunshots were heard, and Secret Service agents immediately rushed onto the stage.
Inside the venue, a tense situation unfolded as people either dropped to the floor or hid under tables. President Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance were immediately evacuated off the stage. Afterwards, armed agents appeared behind the stage, with some seen pointing their weapons toward the crowd.
At the time, Correspondent Jang was seated right next to President Trump. Despite hearing gunshots at close range, she remained unshaken, proceeded to go on stage to guide the event, and calmly announced the subsequent briefing schedule, effectively managing the situation. She later sat in the front row of the White House briefing room and was the first to ask a question during President Trump’s post-shooting press conference.

I hope more information will be available soon. I am relieved that all the attendees and the First Lady are safe."
Her composure while sitting right next to President Trump and being the first to ask a question in the subsequent briefing has drawn widespread praise online. Barry Weiss and Tom Sibrowski of CBS News commented on social media, "She handled the entire situation with composure," adding, "She immediately moved to the White House lawn to continue her reporting as soon as she came off the stage." Another CBS producer remarked, "It was impressive how she seamlessly transitioned from hosting the dinner to leading the questions in the briefing room."
The outlet assessed, "The sight of Correspondent Jang returning to the briefing room to continue her reporting that day exemplifies the Washington media environment’s capacity for immediate response even in unexpected situations."
