Hadong County in South Gyeongsang Province has completed preparations for the 29th Hadong Wild Tea Culture Festival, which will be held from May 1 to May 5, and is ready to welcome guests in earnest.
The county held its final briefing session on April 24, thoroughly reviewing all aspects of the festival. As a festival that has become Korea's representative tea celebration, this year's event will feature a diverse range of programs connecting tradition and modernity, as well as the local and global communities.
The slogan for this year's festival is "Excitement Brewing, in Hadong." It reflects the intention to offer visitors inspiration and relaxation amid the fragrance of thousand-year-old wild tea from the foothills of Mt. Jiri.
This year's festival is particularly notable for being an "experience-oriented festival" that has been further expanded by combining the depth of traditional tea culture with gastronomy, art, hands-on activities, and even future technologies.
◆ Tradition and Elegance... Discovering the Roots of Tea Culture
The Hadong Wild Tea Museum will display more than 120 items, including tea utensils from the Song and Goryeo dynasties, giving visitors a glimpse into the flow of East Asian tea culture.
Additionally, a traditional yard play will be staged, depicting the friendship between Monk Choui, a key figure in the tea culture revival of the late Joseon period, and Kim Jeonghui, further adding historical resonance.
National competitions such as the "Korea Beautiful Tea Table Contest," the "Korea Tea Ceremony Competition," and the "Tea Blending Contest" will be held, showcasing the harmony between traditional and modern tea cultures.
◆ Gastronomy and Global Sensibilities... Expanding the Taste of Hadong
A cooking show featuring Bulgarian chef Mikael and YouTuber and p?tissier Noh Jeonghee will also take place. They will present globally inspired gourmet dishes using Hadong's local specialties.
In addition, the "Hadong Four Seasons Tea Food Exhibition" and food booths using local ingredients will be operated to satisfy all the senses of visitors.
◆ Nature, Art, and Emotion... Healing Content Amid Tea Fragrance
The "Bottle-shaped Otherworldly Trail Walk" and the "Tea Garden Concert," set against the backdrop of wild tea fields in the foothills of Mt. Jiri, will offer healing programs that blend nature and art.
At the photo zone, "Time to Love with Tea," families, couples, and friends can capture special memories together.
◆ Expanded Experiences for Children... AI-Integrated Programs Draw Attention
To coincide with the Children's Day holiday, the festival has strengthened its experiential events. Through "Kidzania GO," three AI-based mission activities will be available, along with a variety of play programs such as treasure hunts, drone games, and puzzle activities.
◆ Eco-Friendly Festival... Strengthening Sustainability
This year's festival will promote the use of reusable containers and other eco-friendly practices to reduce disposable items and present a sustainable festival model. The aim is to realize the value of tea culture that coexists with nature.
A county official stated, "We have prepared a festival that the whole family can enjoy together in celebration of Family Month and Children's Day," adding, "We hope to give everyone who visits Hadong beautiful springtime memories filled with the fragrance of tea."
