This volunteer initiative was linked to the Urgench Airport development and operation (PPP) project in Uzbekistan, which the corporation won in May of last year. Urgench, once a key crossroads for cultural exchange along the Silk Road between East and West, is the site of the Urgench Airport PPP project, a strategically important project where the corporation secured 100% sole operating rights for the first time in its overseas operations.

The volunteer group, comprising 50 people including 30 employees from the corporation and 20 medical staff from the International St. Mary's Hospital of Catholic Kwandong University, engaged in a wide range of activities in Uzbekistan, including medical services, education, and cultural exchange.

The team visited the Urgench branch of Tashkent Medical Academy, an area with limited access to medical care, and provided pediatric consultations to approximately 400 local residents. They also conducted hygiene education for 920 students at Urgench School No. 28 and ran education programs associated with K-culture, such as K-food cooking classes, learning Korean songs, Taekwondo breaking demonstrations, and Hanbok experiences.

Lee Sangyong, Head of New Business Division at Incheon International Airport Corporation, said, "This volunteer activity was a warm and meaningful time, building a Silk Road of the heart with the people of Urgench." He added, "Incheon Airport will continue to fulfill its social responsibility as a global airport and will pursue various ESG activities to create a better world."

Since dispatching its first global volunteer group in 2011, Incheon Airport has sent volunteers to developing countries such as Indonesia, Nepal, and the Philippines 23 times in total, fulfilling its social responsibility as a global corporation.
