The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on April 27 that it held a workshop to discuss the development direction and implementation strategies for the agentic artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem.
Agentic AI refers to AI systems capable of independently understanding and acting upon complex user instructions. Unlike traditional generative AI, which primarily provides information, agentic AI systems are characterized by their ability to perform actual work tasks.
The Ministry of Science and ICT launched the "Agentic AI Alliance" on April 1. This workshop was organized to generate outcomes from the alliance's activities since its launch and to discuss concrete measures to foster the agentic AI ecosystem.
The workshop was attended by division leaders such as NC AI, LG AI Research, Kakao, and the Soongsil University AI Safety Research Center, as well as secretariat organizations including the National Information Society Agency (NIA), National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA), Institute for Information & Communications Technology Planning & Evaluation (IITP), Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA), and the Artificial Intelligence Safety Institute (AISI).
During the workshop, participants shared detailed objectives and operational plans for each division and discussed collaborative projects between divisions. They agreed that close cooperation among divisions is essential for the successful operation of the Agentic AI Alliance.
In addition, there were discussions on the direction for formulating the "Agentic AI Ecosystem Development Strategy (tentative name)," which the Ministry of Science and ICT aims to establish in the first half of this year. Specifically, the review covered strategies such as expanding the use of AI agents, building a foundation for safety and trust, strengthening the technical competitiveness of agentic AI, and establishing the agentic AI infrastructure.
Jinsu Lee, Director General for Artificial Intelligence Policy Planning at the Ministry of Science and ICT, stated, "The competition in AI now requires close collaboration among industry, academia, research, and government, going beyond the capabilities of any single entity. The Ministry of Science and ICT will actively engage with the alliance to develop policies that reflect voices from the field, and will focus its policy capabilities on creating an agentic AI ecosystem that our citizens and businesses can truly experience."
