A story from China is moving many, as footage has been released showing a young girl refusing to leave her grandparents' gravesite after losing them, choosing instead to stay by their side.
According to a recent report by the South China Morning Post (SCMP) in Hong Kong, a video shot in Liupanshui, Guizhou Province, shows a girl lying next to her grandparents' graves, spending time there. Despite her parents' attempts to persuade her, the girl insisted on not leaving the gravesite and even expressed her wish to sleep there.
It is reported that the girl developed a deep bond with her grandparents, having been raised by them since birth. Her father was busy with work, and her mother was unable to care for her due to health issues. However, her grandmother passed away from illness in September last year, and her grandfather also died of heart disease in March of this year.
The girl's father said, "My daughter always wanted to visit her grandparents' graves. Recently, when we went together to pay our respects and I asked her to leave, she refused and said she wanted to sleep by the grave." In the released video, the girl is seen lying next to the grave and later getting up to eat cake, spending time there in a natural manner. Her parents reportedly ended up in tears after witnessing this scene.
This story has spread across Chinese social networking services (SNS), resonating with many users. Some commented, "If I could, I would do the same for my grandparents," "It's been 20 years, but I still miss my grandparents," and "You can really feel how much her grandparents loved her while they were alive."
Meanwhile, China has a deeply rooted culture emphasizing the strong bond between grandparents and grandchildren, so much so that there is even a term, "gebeiqin," to describe it. Stories like this, highlighting the affectionate relationships between children and their grandparents, frequently become topics of discussion online.
In fact, in 2024, a video of a child in Shandong Province crying continuously and pleading for her grandmother to return after she went back to her hometown for two days went viral. That video was viewed over 220,000 times and received more than 23,000 comments. Earlier this year, another story emerged of an 11-year-old girl from Sichuan Province who sent a message saying "I miss you" to her grandfather-who had passed away two years prior-through her smartwatch, sharing her daily life with him.
