Last year, Seoul St. Mary's Hospital was the only institution in the Seoul metropolitan area to be designated as a Regional Maternal and Child Health Center. The center is responsible for providing care across the entire cycle, including pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum management, and neonatal intensive care.
The center operates as a multidisciplinary system, led by specialists in obstetrics and maternal-fetal medicine and in neonatology within the department of pediatrics, in collaboration with anesthesiology and pain medicine, emergency medicine, and radiology. Treatment plans are established in partnership with guardians even before childbirth, and currently, over 60% of hospitalized mothers are classified as high-risk. The center focuses on intensive management of high-risk pregnancies such as postpartum hemorrhage, preeclampsia, preterm labor, and multiple pregnancies, and also operates specialized clinics including an extremely low birth weight infant clinic, a congenital heart disease clinic, and a pediatric surgery clinic. The dedicated neonatal nursing team has an average of more than 10 years of experience.
The hospital has experience delivering naturally conceived quintuplets and treating premature infants born at 22 weeks of gestation. Going forward, it plans to strengthen partnerships with local medical institutions after discharge to expand its role as a key regional medical hub.
Park Inyang, Director of the Regional Maternal and Child Health Center (Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology), stated, "The increasing number of older mothers is raising the risks of high-risk pregnancies and deliveries. Based on a professional and integrated treatment system, we are committed to fulfilling our role as a central medical institution for high-risk mothers and newborns."
