Busan Himchan Hospital Explains "Spinal Endoscopic Surgery" on YouTube

Introduction to Minimally Invasive Procedures

Emphasis on Recovery-Centered Treatment

Busan Himchan Hospital has started providing information about spinal endoscopic surgery through its official YouTube channel, ‘Suchan’s Joint Talk.’ In a recent video, the hospital explained the overall trends in spinal disease treatment, focusing especially on the significance of minimally invasive surgery.

Spinal diseases are among the most common causes of pain in daily life, and are often mistaken for simple muscle pain in the early stages, resulting in delayed treatment. Lower back pain is known for its wide range of symptoms and is considered a representative disease group that requires a step-by-step approach, from medication and injections to surgery.

The video discusses how surgical approaches in spinal disease treatment have evolved over time. Center Director Kim Kyungjun briefly introduced the differences in neural access and recovery processes, explaining the characteristics of spinal endoscopic surgery compared to traditional open surgery.

In the past, open surgeries typically resulted in unavoidable damage to surrounding muscles and tissues to reach the affected area. In contrast, spinal endoscopic surgery approaches lesions through minimal incisions, allowing for more precise treatment within a limited area and thus has evolved to reduce the patient’s burden.

This shift has also influenced perceptions regarding the recovery process. With increasing emphasis on treatment options that consider not only the size of the surgery but also a patient’s return to daily life, the need for minimally invasive procedures is being highlighted. Director Kim Kyungjun stated, "Treatment should not stop at resolving the lesion; it is equally important to consider how the patient can return to their daily life."

Busan Himchan Hospital has recently brought on board neurosurgeon Dr. Shin Taehee to strengthen its spine center medical team, ensuring continuous care without treatment gaps.

The hospital stated, "As it is important to help patients avoid missing the optimal treatment window, we plan to continuously provide content to support disease understanding, along with maintaining a stable medical environment."
