On April 27, Yangcheon-gu announced that it would proceed with the electric bicycle purchase subsidy program again this year to promote carbon neutrality and enhance mobility for its residents. First introduced in 2022 and now in its fifth year, the program has become Yangcheon-gu's signature eco-friendly transportation policy, with 372 recipients selected from approximately 3,700 applicants so far, consistently recording a competition rate of over 9 to 1 each year.

This year, a total of 100 electric bicycles will be subsidized. Of these, 20 will be prioritized for vulnerable groups, including recipients of basic living allowances, low-income families, national merit holders, persons with disabilities, and single-parent families. The subsidy will cover up to 50% of the electric bicycle’s purchase price, capped at 300,000 won per person.

The eligible bicycles are those using the “PAS (Pedal Assist System)” type, which require pedaling to operate. Bicycles that operate solely with a throttle or those that combine PAS and throttle systems are excluded from the program.

Applicants must be residents of Yangcheon-gu aged 18 or older, who have maintained their address in the district for at least two consecutive years. Applications can be submitted through the Yangcheon-gu Integrated Reservation Portal until May 18. Yangcheon-gu will select 100 beneficiaries through an electronic lottery and also designate additional standby recipients in case of ineligible or withdrawn applicants. Final recipients are required to operate the bicycle for at least one year and must register as a “Yangcheon-gu Smart Bicycle Keeper” and attach a smart bicycle license plate. For further details, contact the Bicycle Transportation Team at the Yangcheon-gu Office’s Transportation Division (02-2620-3699).

Yangcheon-gu’s policy aims to promote electric bicycles as a daily means of transportation to replace cars, thereby responding to the energy crisis caused by soaring international oil prices and fostering a wider cycling culture.

A Yangcheon-gu official stated, "We hope this subsidy will help ease the financial burden of our residents during times of high inflation," adding, "We encourage everyone to take advantage of this opportunity to improve your health and save on transportation costs by incorporating cycling into your daily life."
