Gyeonggi Rivera Orchestra to Hold Regular Concert at Gyeonggi Arts Center in May

The Gyeonggi Rivera Orchestra, which was founded by Gyeonggi Province to support the dreams of artists with disabilities, will hold its second regular concert next month.

On April 27, Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggi Arts Center announced that the orchestra’s second regular concert will take place at 5 p.m. on May 16 at the Grand Theater of the Gyeonggi Arts Center.

The subtitle of this concert is "Spring Awakening (甦動)," which, as the Chinese characters suggest, means awakening and moving. It symbolizes the orchestra members awakening the time of growth they have accumulated through music. Each member’s unique sound will organically blend into familiar classical masterpieces, creating a rich resonance of spring.

Pianist Kim Jeongwon will provide program commentary and perform as a soloist. The concert will feature classics such as Brahms’ overture, Grieg’s piano concerto, Tchaikovsky’s Slavonic March, and Beethoven’s symphony, spanning both classical and romantic eras to highlight the orchestra’s musical depth and achievement.

In addition, this performance will offer a new form of cultural and artistic experience, in which residents of the province can participate in production through crowdfunding.

Before the main performance, a rehearsal session will be released in advance, accompanied by commentary from pianist An Inmo, providing the audience with a special opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the music.

Park Laehyuk, Director of Culture, Sports and Tourism at Gyeonggi Province, stated, “This performance was planned as a participatory event in which residents themselves are directly involved. As the Gyeonggi Rivera Orchestra was established with the support of many residents, we will continue to create a stage where everyone, regardless of ability or disability, can come together through music, with residents accompanying Rivera on its journey of growth.”
