Gyeonggi Province is launching the "Job Opportunities Campus for Middle-Aged and Older Adults" this year for the first time, providing practical job training to support reemployment and entrepreneurship among the middle-aged population.
On April 27, Gyeonggi Province announced that it will recruit a total of 600 trainees for job training programs, with 25 participants in each of the 24 courses, targeting residents aged 40 and over but under 65 years old in the province.
Previously, in April, Gyeonggi Province selected six institutions as program operators: Gyeonggi University of Science and Technology, Kyungmin University, Doowon Technical University, Sungkyunkwan University, Yeoju Institute of Technology, and Yeonsung University. Each university will operate four programs, making a total of 24 training courses.
The training is structured to suit various participant circumstances, with separate tracks for current employees, job seekers, and entrepreneurs. Notably, the program introduces a "micro-degree" system, going beyond simple education. Participants who complete a certain number of credits at a university will receive a certificate of completion issued by the university, allowing their learning achievements to be officially recognized.
The employee track focuses on the latest on-the-job skills such as solar energy applications and AI·DX practical work. The job seeker track is organized around fields with a high likelihood of employment linkage, such as electrical technician and integrated care specialist. The entrepreneur track supports the development of initial entrepreneurship capacity through hands-on training, mainly in the beauty and pet care sectors.
Song Eunsil, Director of the Social Innovation Economy Bureau of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "The middle-aged population possesses ample experience and capabilities, but often faces difficulties during the reemployment process," adding, "We expect this program will support job transitions for the middle-aged while also connecting companies with the skilled talent they need."
