The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on April 27 that it will support two-way cultural exchanges between nine domestic cultural and arts organizations and nine cultural and arts organizations from seven countries, including France, Canada, and Brazil, through the "2026 Korea Round Culture" project.
Korea Round Culture is a brand for the international, two-way cultural collaboration support project that the ministry has been promoting together with the Korean Foundation for International Cultural Exchange since 2023. Through open calls, collaborative works in theater, dance, exhibitions, and other genres by domestic and international organizations are selected and supported. Domestic organizations showcase their works overseas, while international organizations present their works in Korea. This aims to invigorate international cultural exchange and lay the groundwork for Korean cultural and arts organizations to expand abroad.
In the open call held in January, 167 domestic cultural and arts organizations applied, and after a review process, collaborative works by nine domestic organizations and nine organizations from seven countries were finally selected. Notable participating organizations in Korea include the Nam June Paik Art Center and the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts, while major overseas organizations include the Guimet National Museum of Asian Arts in France, the ELEKTRA Festival in Canada, and the Pinacoteca de S?o Paulo in Brazil.
Through this project, collaborative works in various fields such as sound art, contemporary art, dance, and theater will be presented both in Korea and abroad. In June, a collaborative performance between "WeSA," organizer of the Korea Sound Art Festival, and Canada's "ELEKTRA Festival" will take place. In July, a collaborative performance and installation art exhibition will be held by the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts and the Guimet National Museum of Asian Arts in France. In November, the Nam June Paik Art Center and the Pinacoteca de S?o Paulo in Brazil will co-host a special exhibition. Detailed schedules will be released sequentially through the official website.
A policy official at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism stated, "The Korea Round Culture project is meaningful in that domestic and international cultural and arts organizations can share creative capabilities and broaden the scope of mutual exchange through collaboration. The ministry will incorporate feedback from the field during project implementation to make necessary improvements, and will continue to provide support for sustainable and stable collaborations based on the accumulated achievements."
