Changwon Metropolitan City in Gyeongnam will host the "Changwon Children’s Grand Festival" at the Naval Education and Training Command (Jinhae-gu) on May 5, 2026, to commemorate the 104th Children’s Day. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Although the event is being held in the unique setting of a military base, the city has lowered entry barriers for Children’s Day by allowing anyone wearing a wristband distributed at the entrance to freely enter and exit without additional identity verification.
The festivities will begin with a pre-ceremony performance featuring: a Taekkyeon demonstration, a street dance performance by Bamos Crew, and a concert by the Naval Education and Training Command military band. The subsequent commemorative ceremony will include the reading of the Children’s Rights Charter and the presentation of awards to exemplary children and contributors.
This year, a talk concert by 'Jeongbeureu,' a rare animal YouTuber who is highly popular among children, is generating much anticipation. In addition, there will be a magic show, a bubble show, a children’s club dance, and other lively performances, along with a recreation session.
The event will also feature a variety of experience booths. Children can enjoy air sports, hands-on experiences with firefighting, police, and navy careers, disability awareness activities and sign language lessons, trying out props from different countries, and making cotton candy using pedal-powered bicycles. A wide array of programs designed to stimulate children’s curiosity and senses will be offered, with some activities requiring a fee.
For the convenience of visitors, the future development site parking lot within the Naval Education and Training Command will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the day of the event. However, vehicles may only enter until 2 p.m. A city official advised, “As on-site congestion is expected, we recommend walking to the event if possible.”
In addition, various events for children will be held throughout the city. On May 2 (Saturday), there will be an event at the Gyeongnam Provincial Government lawn plaza (10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.); on May 3 (Sunday), a hands-on event at the Burim Creative Craft Village (1 p.m. to 5 p.m.); on May 5 (Tuesday), events at Naeseo Culture and Sports Center, Jinhae Marine Park, and the Changwon High School athletic field; and on May 6 (Wednesday), a “Warmhearted Day” at the Jindong Comprehensive Welfare Center.
Lee Sugyeong, head of the Children and Youth Division at Changwon City Hall, stated, “We will prepare a safe and fulfilling event so that our children-the protagonists of the future-can freely play and nurture their dreams together with their families.”
