Just two weeks after Neugoo, the wolf that escaped from Daejeon O-World, returned, a new children's book inspired by Neugoo's story has been published and is drawing significant attention.
On April 24, Literary World Publishing announced the release of "Neugoo's Dream," the first children's book by a former elementary school teacher turned digital creator.
The story follows a young wolf, born in a zoo and who has never seen a forest, as it digs under the fence and embarks on a nine-day journey in the outside world.
The publisher explained that the book began with the question, "What might Neugoo have felt when he first encountered the world?" and features watercolor-style illustrations depicting moments such as the wolf drinking from a flowing stream instead of a water bowl for the first time, and gazing up at the endless sky.
Poet Jeon Yunho described the work as "a children's story that beautifully and clearly captures the excitement and joy of experiencing the world for the first time."
News of the book's publication quickly spread across various online communities and social networking services (SNS), sparking mixed reactions. Some criticized the fact that the book was published barely two weeks after the incident, with one user calling it "a shallow marketing ploy to capitalize on the buzz," while another commented, "Neugoo endured the hardship, but the author is reaping the profits."
The unusually short production period also led to suspicions that artificial intelligence (AI) may have been used in its creation, raising questions about the authenticity of the work.
Other users expressed their curiosity and anticipation, with one saying, "I heard about Neugoo's story through the news and have imagined how the wolf might have felt with my children. I'm curious to see how this will unfold in a children's book," while another user responded positively, stating, "I want to read it with my kids and talk about the meaning of freedom."
