A man in his 60s was arrested after causing a disturbance when apprehended by police for driving in the wrong direction under the influence of alcohol.
On April 25, the Namyangju Nambu Police Station announced that it had referred a man in his 60s, identified as Mr. A, to the prosecution without detention on charges including violations of the Road Traffic Act.
According to the police, at around 9:00 p.m. on February 14, Mr. A crossed the center line and drove in the opposite direction in Hopyeong-dong, Namyangju, Gyeonggi Province, before suddenly reversing and re-entering the correct lane. Police officers on patrol in a squad car suspected drunk driving and pursued the vehicle, eventually apprehending Mr. A.
When the officers attempted to conduct a breathalyzer test, Mr. A verbally abused them and assaulted one of the officers by hitting their face. He was ultimately subdued by the police. The results of the breathalyzer test indicated that Mr. A's blood alcohol concentration was 0.183%, which exceeds the level for license revocation. In addition, Mr. A was found to be on a wanted list for failing to pay fines.
Mr. A reportedly admitted to driving under the influence, stating, "Someone was supposed to pick me up, but as time passed and they didn't arrive, I decided to drive myself."
