Hamyang County Achieves Results in Establishing AI and ICT-Based Wildfire Prevention System

Imposing Fines for Illegal Burning...
Enhancing Prevention Through Drone Surveillance

Hamyang County in South Gyeongsang Province is strengthening its wildfire prevention capabilities by establishing a prevention system utilizing artificial intelligence (AI)-based information and communication technology (ICT).

The county announced that it is operating a "Wildfire Prevention ICT Platform," which integrates AI analysis technology with surveillance closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage for wildfire monitoring.

This system analyzes CCTV footage in real time, automatically detecting anomalies such as smoke or flames. When such signs are identified, the system immediately sends a text message alert to the responsible public officials, allowing for rapid initial response.

In particular, the county is achieving tangible results by using this platform to detect illegal burning activities and impose fines. Previously, it was difficult to crack down on illegal burning, but now, with this scientific monitoring system, the effectiveness of the county's wildfire prevention efforts has been enhanced.

Additionally, the county is supplementing this approach by using drones to monitor and enforce wildfire prevention measures. By intensifying inspections in forest-adjacent and vulnerable areas, Hamyang County is reducing blind spots and building a multi-dimensional surveillance system.

Heo Inho, Director of the Forest and Greenery Division at Hamyang County, stated, "The speed and accuracy of wildfire prevention have greatly improved thanks to the AI-based ICT platform and drone monitoring. We will continue to actively utilize advanced technology to strictly respond to illegal burning and do our utmost to make our region safe from wildfires."

Meanwhile, Hamyang County plans to block the causes of wildfires in advance through ongoing monitoring and crackdowns, and will strengthen prevention-focused policies to protect residents' lives and forest resources.
