Uiseong County marked the 56th anniversary of Earth Day by working to expand public consensus on carbon neutrality and foster a culture of low-carbon living among its residents.
According to Uiseong County, on April 22, from 8:00 p.m. for 10 minutes, the county office and all township offices turned off their lights simultaneously as part of a lights-off event, while also conducting an online campaign to promote carbon neutrality.

This lights-off event was a symbolic campaign conducted nationwide at the same time, aiming to remind people of the importance of energy conservation and reducing carbon emissions through even brief participation.
Alongside the lights-off event, the county encouraged voluntary participation from residents through the carbon-neutral online community “Net Zero Uiseong: Our Neighborhood Carbon Neutrality.”
In addition, Uiseong County actively promoted low-carbon lifestyle practices to public organizations and related agencies, such as turning off unused lights and computers, reducing paper use and practicing double-sided printing, and using tumblers to cut down on single-use products.
Notably, the county cafeteria also promoted the consumption of local agricultural products as a way to encourage local food use and link it to carbon reduction, thereby expanding the scope of carbon-neutral practices to everyday dietary habits.
Joo Soo Kim, Mayor of Uiseong County, said, “Small actions add up to become a powerful force for protecting the environment,” and expressed hope that this Earth Day event would inspire all residents to participate in carbon-neutral practices in their daily lives.
