Encouraging Voluntary Removal of Illegal Occupations

Yeongyang County has launched an on-site publicity campaign to eradicate illegal occupation activities in rivers and valleys and to protect the pristine river environment.

On April 24, Yeongyang County in North Gyeongsang Province announced that it conducted a joint campaign with Yeongyang Police Station at the Yeongyang Traditional Market to eradicate illegal occupation of rivers and valleys.

This campaign was carried out in accordance with the government's policy to regulate illegal facilities within river and valley areas.

The county focused not only on enforcement-oriented administration but also on fostering public consensus among residents and encouraging voluntary participation to normalize river areas.

In particular, as rivers and valleys are public assets shared by both residents and tourists, the county emphasized the importance of preventing illegal occupation and spreading a culture of proper use.

To this end, the campaign took advantage of market day, when visitor numbers are high, to distribute promotional leaflets to residents and merchants at the traditional market, raising awareness of the need to eradicate illegal facilities.

Following this campaign, Yeongyang County plans to continue efforts to normalize river areas by first encouraging voluntary removal of any illegal facilities detected, while also conducting regular patrols and on-site guidance.

Baek Inheum, Head of the Construction Safety Division of Yeongyang County, stated, "We will do our utmost to eradicate illegal activities within river areas and to improve public awareness," adding, "Since keeping rivers clean cannot be achieved by administrative agencies alone, we ask for the active participation of all county residents."
