Chilgok County Begins Distribution of High Oil Price Relief Payments

Tangible Economic Recovery That Residents Can Feel
On April 24, Chilgok County in North Gyeongsang Province announced that it will provide "high oil price relief payments" to ease the financial burden on residents caused by recent high oil prices and inflation.
The recipients of this support are households in the bottom 70% income bracket among those registered as residents of Chilgok County as of March 30, 2026.
The first round of applications is open to recipients of basic livelihood security, near-poverty groups, and single-parent families, who will receive the payment first from April 27 to May 8. Near-poverty households and single-parent families are eligible for 500,000 won, while basic livelihood security recipients will receive 600,000 won.
The second round of applications will target the bottom 70% income bracket, with applications accepted from May 18 to July 3.
Applications can be submitted both online and offline. To prevent congestion, an application day system based on the last digit of the applicant’s year of birth will be implemented during the first week.
The relief payments will be provided either as credit/debit card points (to be applied for via the respective bank or card company) or as prepaid cards (to be applied for at township or town offices). The funds must be used by August 31 at small businesses in Chilgok County with annual sales of 3 billion won or less.
In addition, the county urged residents to be especially cautious about text messages containing internet links (URLs) that may attempt phishing by impersonating the relief payment application process.
Han Younghee, acting mayor of Chilgok County, stated, "This relief payment aims to ease the burden on our residents caused by high oil prices and to encourage local consumption. We will do our utmost to ensure swift and smooth payments so that residents can experience tangible economic recovery effects."
