According to the Culture and Sanitation Division of Sungsan District on April 24, the district identified a business violating the Food Sanitation Act during intensive inspections of unmanned stores used by children, such as those within 200 meters of schools (designated child food safety protection zones), as well as shops and academies, conducted from April 7 to April 22.
This inspection was carried out after discovering ice cream and snacks past their expiration dates at an unmanned store, in order to promote a safe food environment for children.
As a result of the inspection, one business was caught displaying and storing expired products for sale and will be subject to administrative action, such as a fine. A follow-up inspection will be conducted within six months.
Additionally, in the child food safety protection zones around schools, dedicated child supervisors will continuously monitor the identified business to ensure corrective measures are implemented.
Kim Sooyun, head of the Culture and Sanitation Division, stated, "Most unmanned stores operate as free businesses and report without obtaining separate licenses or permits, making it easy to neglect expiration date management and food safety. We will continue to raise awareness among unmanned store operators about food safety for children and work to eliminate blind spots in hygiene management."
