This export is particularly significant because it marks the resumption of exports to Japan, which had been suspended since 2020. Until now, Suncheon Enmaesil Co., Ltd. has purchased plums harvested in Suncheon, processed them, and exported to three countries: the United States, China, and Australia.
Suncheon maesil is a representative agricultural product of Suncheon, cultivated over an area of 1,099 hectares, mainly in the Woldeung, Hwangjeon, and Haeryong regions, with over 2,600 farming households involved in its production. Suncheon Enmaesil Co., Ltd. was established by more than 1,600 maesil farmers to build a sixth industry (production, processing, and distribution) infrastructure.
The company obtained Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) certification in 2015 and received U.S. FDA certification for its Sunmaesil concentrate and Sunmaesil syrup in 2017. It has continued its efforts to supply high-quality products to both domestic and international markets.
A city official stated, "This export to Japan is more than a simple resumption of exports; it serves as an opportunity to reaffirm the excellence and marketability of Suncheon maesil. We will continue to expand overseas markets for high-quality agricultural products to increase local farmers' income and broaden export channels."
