Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency Appoints ASEAN Diplomatic Corps as "International Cooperation Advisory Group"

The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency has strengthened its foreign security cooperation system by appointing the ASEAN diplomatic corps in Korea as the "International Cooperation Advisory Group."

On the morning of April 24, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced that it held a meeting with representatives from the ASEAN diplomatic corps in Korea and a group of high-ranking officials at its headquarters in Jongno-gu, Seoul, and hosted the International Cooperation Advisory Group Appointment Ceremony. The ASEAN diplomatic corps in attendance included representatives from 11 countries: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam.

During the meeting, participants discussed crime prevention and victim protection measures for foreigners and multicultural families, as well as strengthening police cooperation between capital cities to respond to cross-border crimes.

This event was organized at the request of the ASEAN diplomatic corps to express their appreciation for efforts to ensure the safety and security of foreigners. The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency appointed eight individuals, including Byeongcheol Min, Chairman of the Sunfull Foundation, and Tanee Sangrat, the Thai Ambassador to Korea, as International Cooperation Advisors and Honorary Advisors.

The attendees also agreed to participate in the "K-Respect Campaign," which aims to reduce discrimination against multicultural families and foreigners residing in Korea, and to promote mutual respect and understanding.

Jungbo Park, Commissioner of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, stated, "It is difficult for a single agency to respond to crimes targeting foreigners alone," adding, "We will strengthen our cooperative system to create a safer security environment."
