Naver Launches Real-Time Tab Sharing 'Multiplay' Feature on Whale Browser

"Enabling Intuitive Collaboration for Meetings and More"

NAVER announced on April 24 that it has officially launched the "Multiplay" feature for its own web browser, Whale. This feature creates a collaborative environment where users can share browser tabs in real time and communicate via voice.

Whereas traditional video conferencing systems only allowed participants to view a specific presenter's screen, Multiplay enables users to open and share any internet page as a tab, allowing everyone to explore the web together.

Whale, launched in 2017, has introduced various tools such as sidebar, capture, dual tab, quick search, mouse gestures, and Papago translation. The newly released Multiplay feature stands out by enhancing collaboration through real-time tab synchronization, going beyond simple screen sharing. When the host opens a tab or navigates to a site, the same page is instantly opened on all participants' browsers.

Because Multiplay only shares the URL, even if a private page such as an email inbox is shared, the other party will only see their own account screen. Login pages are automatically recognized and excluded from synchronization, minimizing concerns about personal information exposure compared to traditional screen sharing.

Intuitive functions are also included. By following another user, you can track their tab navigation and scroll position in real time, allowing you to see exactly which content area the presenter wishes to highlight. If you need to draw all participants’ attention to yourself, you can use the Spotlight feature to request everyone to follow you at once.

The Highlight feature enables you to emphasize specific text areas in multiple colors, allowing for detailed explanations of particular phrases. Even if you close the Multiplay window, previous tab lists and chat history are preserved, so you can resume your work seamlessly at any time. For documents stored on your device or content from external applications that cannot be opened directly in a browser tab, a separate screen sharing function is supported.

Whale Multiplay can be started by clicking the Multiplay icon on the browser toolbar or through the browser menu, and other users can be easily invited simply by sharing the generated link. Spaces where there are no longer any participants or that are not in use are automatically deleted.

Kim Hyo, leader of NAVER Whale, stated, "With Multiplay, we focused on creating an experience on the browser that feels like working together in a single space, regardless of physical distance. With just one link, you can invite others to a meeting, and anyone can easily share tabs and communicate. Through Multiplay, you can experience genuine collaboration, even from different locations."
