Dongducheon City in Gyeonggi Province announced on April 23 that it has finalized the selection of a total of 10 schools-including five middle schools and five high schools in the area-through the screening process for the "2026 Student Autonomous Festival" competition.
The "Student Autonomous Festival" is a program that supports students in planning and operating festivals independently, helping them develop a sense of leadership and autonomy. The initiative began in 2024, making this the third consecutive year it has been held.
This year's competition was conducted over five days, from March 30 to April 3, and involved 10 middle and high schools within Dongducheon. Based on the evaluation results, the city selected recipients in order of highest scores, within a total budget of 120 million won.
The selected schools and their festival names are as follows: ▲Dongducheon Girls’ Middle School, "Today, Embracing Dongyeo" ▲Dongducheon Middle School, "DDCM Grand Festival with DDC" ▲Hanbitnuri Middle School, "Brilliant Hanbit, a Festival for All" ▲Saengyeon Middle School, "That Year at Saengyeon" ▲Shinheung Middle School, "Harmony Festival" ▲Dongducheon High School, "2026 Cheongyong Festival-Sharing Learning with Dongducheon" ▲Dongducheon Jungang High School, "Haneol Festival, Growth Sharing Presentation" ▲Hanbitnuri High School, "Our Stage, All-Around Arts Festival with Commentary" ▲Shinheung High School, "Harmony Festival 2026" ▲Korea Culture & Media High School, "Now, Our Scene."
The selected schools are expected to foster a student-driven culture through festival programs that reflect each school's unique character, while providing opportunities to interact with local citizens and share the learning experience.
The Director of the Dongducheon City Future Education Promotion Center stated, "The Student Autonomous Festival will be a valuable opportunity for students to take the lead in every step, learning the importance of communication and collaboration," and added, "We will do our utmost to support the 10 selected schools in safely running diverse programs that showcase their individuality."
